The radio

and my lover’s voice

His eyes on the road,

hidden behind dreamy glasses.

We talk away the miles,

and so often find

his words are my own.

That one soul we’ve been weaving

twenty-one years strong.

Delicate

and

Sublime

Blowing in the wind

Passionate

and

Wise

Containing one sunlit field

and

The universe.

Whole.

Extant

Disparate populace of my thoughts

Once unwelcome interlopers

Now fine silken threads: flawed, broken, gorgeous, old

Woven into one

No shame in examining, admiring, pondering, remembering

Touch my cheek

Caress the whole

Wrap my soul

A magnifying glass

A microscope

Ten steps back

Then ten miles

A landscape

A sunset

Moon and stars

This is my life

This is my love

This is what binds my heart

  and makes me WHOLE.

Ampersand hovering over the water

No words

No truths

No forgetting

There

A wild rash that brings pleasure with every scratch.

No cure

No hope of healing

Glide and dive

Collect a pebble:

this moment,

eons ago.

Zing and fling

Muffle and kerfuffle

words that rhyme.

The repetition

dulling bright intellects

in leaden precious pockets.

This redundancy

this mindless work

a steady stream of liquid pink on crisp paper

scallop after scallop

sharp scissors

and glue:

happiness

flaxen sunlight on pale winter skin

before an eager tearing of envelopes

a melting of veins

and

spirits rising over hill and dale

and vast landscapes,

miles and feet between.

Strangers, friends, and lovers uniting

in a gleeful tangle

of mirth

made by one

but for us all.

Twenty-one years since our first date.

Crossing a threshold, more years together than not.

We talk and dream and laugh

and sometimes cry.

We ache and burn and soothe.

We hear though sometimes we do not listen

and want to throttle and curse

and laugh again.

We shower one another with kisses

and words whispered in lust

and LOVE

and hearts full

of everything and everyone we’ve ever been,

together.
